5 ways to keep yourself entertained during lockdown!

lockdown blog

Right now, the Nation is in a strange and testing place. The Governments lockdown has forced people to stay in their homes, in order to help fight the virus and to protect our NHS. Whilst this is absolutely the right thing to do, it is challenging for a lot of us to occupy our time effectively.

So, with that in mind, we have put together a list of 5 things to do during lockdown! Hopefully you can learn new skills, have some fun and maybe even bond with your family.

Learn guitar!

Whether it’s a time or money issue, learning to play an instrument is one of those ‘things’ that has evaded many people.

Luckily, world renowned guitar manufacturers Fender have recently announced that they are offering free guitar lessons! Guitar lessons aren’t the only offering though. They are also offering Bass and Ukelele lessons.

Simply visit their website to sign-up for 3 months of free online lessons! Now you’ve got the time and don’t have to spend any money on lessons, you could be the next Jimi Hendrix…maybe.

Learn a language

Being bilingual has always been a massive advantage, whether applying for jobs or in social situations. So, why not use all this free time to learn a new language?

There are multiple apps and websites that allow you to learn. Apps such as Babbel and Duolingo also have free versions to help you get started.

To make it easier, you should learn with someone else in your house and practise conversation.

Virtual quizzes!

You don’t have to be an egghead to have fun with quizzes. You can also connect with other plays online, so don’t worry if you live alone.

Websites like Kahoot.it allow multiple players to log on and play! Plus, if you use a web chat app like Zoom or WhatsApp video, you can share screens and play with family and friends.

There are quizzes for the whole family to enjoy and they could also help with learning whilst schools are shut. If you want something a bit more ‘grown-up’ you can do online pub quizzes, which are being run by pubs forced to temporarily close.

Home workouts

Since being confined to the comfort of our homes, many of us will see a decrease in exercise. This could leave us feeling sluggish and de-motivated. It could also have a big impact on our kid’s fitness whilst schools are shut.

Fortunately, many big names are providing free fitness courses and videos. Take Joe Wicks for example. The fitness guru is providing free P.E lessons on YouTube, check out his YouTube channel and get the family involved!

Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth is also providing 6-weeks free trail of his fitness regime Centre.com. If you’re looking for something a bit more intense and focussed, we recommend having a look into this.

Read more books

Reading is a great way to stay occupied and broaden your mind. Now you have more spare time than ever, why not grab some books off that dusty shelf!

If you have trouble with reading or prefer listening to books, you can start a 30-day free trial on Audible. It also includes a free book to get you started.

We hope you stay safe during the lockdown and please follow the advice from the Government. This free time could be seen as a blessing to spend more time with loved ones and to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of life for just a short while.
